Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Movie*

I have been meaning to publish this post for the last 2 weeks, but because of my disappointment, I haven't really paid any attention to it, until I realize I should post it before it gets too late. So anyway, as the title suggests, this is a post about Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince or HP6.

You know me, I like to write my version of a review, but I cringe at the word review, so let's not use that word, okay, just know that this is my opinion of the film.

When I saw the trailer, I was like, WOW. I. HAVE. GOT. TO. SEE. THIS. Check it out if you haven't seen it.

The start was great, I love the graphics, as always, the effects were outstanding, and the way they made the Millennium Bridge twist and then collapse was an awesome mark for all muggles to realize that something terrible is in the midst of happening. I don't know about you, but I am afraid of the Death Eaters. I am also afraid of Fenrir Greyback (Dave Legeno), the werewolf, who bit Remus Lupin (David Thewlis), which is why he is a werewolf. His face when Ginny found him in the clearing (during the scene where she followed Harry off into the night when Bellatrix appeared near the burrow) was freaking scary!

Photobucket

But you don't realize how Remus became a werewolf because none of the movie franchises revealed that, quite a disappointment right there. However, I am not afraid of Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter), I can take her and her crazies. LOL. She gets more exposure in the film than in the book, which is okay I guess. I love the whole love triangle going on between Ron (Rupert Grint), Hermione (Emma Watson) and Lavender (Jessie Cave). Lavender annoys me, but hey, she made Hermione express her feelings for Ron in the end, so yay.

However, I don't think the movie showed how much Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) meant to Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), and how Harry meant to Dumbledore that much. I felt that the movie lacked the emotion the book had. I mean it should have been evident how sorrowful and gloomy the atmosphere was, but all I felt was excitement at the beginning, and then as the movie progressed, nothing. I felt weird not loving the film, as I have loved most of the previous Harry Potter films.

I knew Severus Snape (Alan Rickman) killed Albus Dumbledore because I have read the book, but I wanted to see how they'd show that on film, and I was quite disappointed by how it turned out. The whole scene in the book where Harry was chasing after Snape and Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) was cut so short, it felt rushed, so disappointing.

Also, Draco's suffering wasn't depicted greatly, although I think Tom Felton made an amazing job in showing what a tortured soul Draco Malfoy was.

The film also didn't elaborate on why Severus Snape called himself the Half Blood Prince. For all of you who haven't read the book, here's an explanation why. Snape's mom is a pure blooded wizard, who married a muggle. Snape's mom's middle name is Prince. Thus, making him half blooded, which is why he called himself the Half Blood Prince.

The ending was so disappointing. The whole funeral scene from the book didn't make the film. Why? It is probably one of the most important scenes in the book and they decided not to put it in the film? WTF? I felt that Albus Dumbledore, the greatest wizard who ever lived deserved more than just a raise of their wands.

The movie was so incomplete, it didn't even show the part where Dumbledore went to the Dursleys to pick up Harry, it was so incomplete. As an HP fan, I would have expected more, and since this is the 6th and the previous movies were awesome, I thought this would be better since it's nearing the end. If time was what they needed then they should've just made the movie into 2 parts, that way time won't be a problem and they'll be able to put in the crucial, important details from the book. Deviating from the book is okay, but you shouldn't deviate too far. I am so disappointed by this film, I am re-reading the book, just so I can feel better about it. I hope the next film, the last one, will be better than this one, because out of all the HP movies, this one sucked for me, big time. But that's just me. If you enjoyed it, good for you.

Until next time folks! I hope you had a better experience with the HP6 movie, I read the book, so maybe that's why I expected too much, but if I didn't know the story, I'd say it was a pretty good movie too.
